Najib now weaker than Pak Lah, says PAS MP

KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 12: PAS's Kuala Selangor member of parliament Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said prime minister Najib Razak (pic) now appeared to be weaker than Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. “Spineless! No backbone like a cuttlefish!” he said, describing Najib's performance in the wake of the capital's largest anti-government rally on July 7 since the first Bersih rally in 2007. Speaking to online portal Merdeka Review, Dzulkefly reminded that Najib had always been undermined by Muhyiddin Yassin and Dr Mahathir Mohamad, both of are sympathisers to right wing group Perkasa. “If this theory is accepted, it proves that Najib is indeed weaker, more flip-flops and gutless compared to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,” said Dzulkefly. Dzulkefly said the government's handling of the Bersih rally proved UMNO's refusal to change. “They still dream of returning to the early days, when they can be in power without much efforts, without opposition or check and balance. "They panic and do not know how to deal with the new politics,” he said, and said only those who can deal with the country's changing landscape could survive. Dzulkefly also brutality with which the police clamped down on protesters showed UMNO's old political mindset, dominated by Najib’s cousin Hishamuddin Hussein, the Home minister. “His 1Malaysia has collapsed. His New Economy Model? Also collapsed because of Perkasa. His rhetoric that the ‘era of government knows best is over’ also has crashed," he added. PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu meanwhile warned the government of a sequel to Bersih 2.0 in the form of 'Bersih 3.0' if the government continued to resist electoral reforms. Sabu echoed an earlier statement by Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang reminding the Barisan Nasional government of a larger uprising which may not necessarily be timed before the election but also after the election.
