Popular Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo Lo laid to rest

Popular Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo Lo laid to rest

PAS Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo'Lo' Ghazali, who died of cancer a day ago, was buried at the Datuk Keramat cemetery in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Hundreds of people, including top Pakatan Rakyat leaders and party mates, attended the special prayers at Masjid Al-Akran before her remains were taken to the nearby cemetary.

Performing the last rites were her husband Dr Aminudin Abdul Hamif Karim, 55, and four children Mohd Fawwaz, 28, Mohd Farhan, 25, Mawaddah, 30, and Sakinah, 26.

Untimely

Born on August 2, 1957, Lo' Lo was just a fortnight away from her 54th birthday. The PAS leader is a medical graduate of University Kebangsaan Malaysia and a first-term MP.

Lo' Lo' is the daughter of former Perak mufti Mohd Ghazali Abdullah and has been suffering from lung cancer since late July 2009.

She is well-regarded in Malaysia's political circles for her intelligence and astuteness. The late Lo Lo will certainly be missed by her party. She was one of a new breed of powerful PAS women leaders, capable of routing the well-established Wanita UMNO led by Shahrizat Jalil.

Despite her untimely death, there will be no by-election because the 3-year timeline has passed. The seat will be supervised her party colleagues. PAS may also appoint a special representative who will likely contest the seat in the next general election.

Condolences have poured in from both sides of the political divide:

Nasrudin Tantawi, PAS Youth chief: PAS and the people have lost a true fighter for Islam who never shirked her duty. May she rest in peace.

Shamsul Iskandar, PKR Youth chief: Al Fatihah: We have lost a really worthy Member of Parliament.

Nurul Izzah, Lembah Pantai MP: Our beloved Lo Lo has passed away. May she rest in peace.

Gan Ping Sieu, MCA vice president: Rest in peace and deepest condolences to family members.

Wee Ka Siong, MCA Youth chief: Deepest condolences to the family of YB Dr Lo Lo. Her work and contribution to the country will always be remembered.

Abd Rahman Dahlan, MP Kota Belud: Dr Lo Lo was a good Member of Parliament. An excellent and responsible debater. Her death will be sorely missed.

Azmin Ali, PKR deputy president: Deepest condolences and may she rest in peace. I am very saddened by her passing. She was a real fighter and believer in justice. We have lost a good comrade.

Tian Chua, PKR vice president: A very sad day for PAS and Pakatan Rakyat. Our deepest condolences to her family. We wish them the strength to get past this trying time.

Latheefa Koya, PKR legal affairs chief: We have lost a very good friend and Malaysia, a very good leader.
