S'gor opposition chief ordered out of assembly over Islamic verse

SHAH ALAM - Selangor Opposition leader Datuk Satim Diman was ordered out of the state assembly meeting on Tuesday for not following the Speaker's objection procedures.

The Barisan Nasional-Seri Serdang assemblyman refused to take his seat as ordered by Speaker Datuk Teng Chang Khim after he (Satim) had an argument with Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim (DAP) over the usage of a verse from the Hadith.

Satim and Ng were at loggerheads after Ng attempted a verse from the Hadith when debating on the Supplementary Supply Bill and its allocation for Chinese schools, which Satim described as "not right for a non-Muslim to say".

Ng had attempted to recite the verse during the debate session. However, he was stopped and asked to verify his source by Satim.

"He is not qualified to say out the verses as he has no knowledge of the religion. He could not even verify his source when I asked him," he told reporters at the state assembly lobby.

He added that only those qualified, such as the ulama, should speak and comment on the religion.

The adamant Satim was then asked to leave the remaining of the state legislative assembly.

Teng, meanwhile, confirmed that Satim had been suspended the entire day for ignoring the Speaker's order.

However, Ng refused to comment on the incident when met at the lobby.
