Teoh RCI: Copy-cat group suspected to be linked to MCA wants Ean punished

Teoh RCI: Copy-cat group suspected to be linked to MCA wants Ean punished

In what appears to be a copy-cat move possibly inspired by political rivals MCA, a group of people claiming to be friends and supporters of Teoh Beng Hock are demanding that his boss, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, take a share of the responsibility for his cruel death at the hands of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

"This is another sick idea like the one they played on Hannah Yeoh when she tried to register her child as anak Malaysia. It is sad to see BN components degrade themselves for the sake of UMNO and lie in such a way. Don't they have any conscience about the Teoh family and what they think," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

According to the Star, the anti-Ean group gathered for about 10 minutes outside a multipurpose hall in Seri Kembangan before being asked to disperse by the police. It is unclear how many people were involved.

“He was supposed to accompany Teoh to the MACC office but he didn't. He also didn't find out what happened to Teoh until after his body was found,” group's spokesperson Allan Liew Sin Kin told reporters on Monday.

“Teoh Beng Hock was a good personal aide to him. He would do anything asked by YB. After his death, YB just washed his hands off. The family of Teoh Beng Hock should be compensated by YB.”

Disgusting MCA

Teoh, 30, the political aide to Ean Yong, was found dead on July 16, 2009 on the 5th floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after giving his statement at the Selangor MACC office located on the 14th floor of the building.

A Royal Commission of Inquiry report into his death last week concluded that Teoh was driven to commit suicide, blaming intensive interrogation by three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers.

However, the RCI's finding were widely condemned and have deeply angered the Chinese community. The Chinese are also disgusted at the MCA, which instead of standing up for the Teoh family, had chosen to toe the BN line and is supporting UMNO on the issue.

Selangor UMNO has been accused of triggering the entire episode by conspiring with the MACC to pin false embezzlement charges against Selangor Pakatan Rakyat leaders including Ean Yong, the former Selangor DAP chief. Teoh had gone to be interrogated as a witness into the false claims against Ean. It must be noted that the MACC has since cleared Ean of all corruption claims.

On that day, July 15, and the days before, Ean and other DAP leaders including Seputeh MP Teresa Kok had alerted the press of deliberate MACC intimidation. Ean also highlighted the raid on his office and had gone to the MACC office demanding to know what had happened to Teoh the very next day, which was when Teoh's body was discovered.

Last month, C.K. Lim, adviser to the Selangor MCA public complaints bureau, was accused of stirring up racial fire for Subang Jaya assemblywoman Hannah Yeoh over the race of her first-born child Shay Adora in her birth certificate.

Hannah, who is married to IT engineer M Ramachandran, had wanted to put the race as anak Malaysia instead of having to choose between Chinese or Indian.
