Smelling of beer

Smelling of beer

An Opposition MP is in trouble because he is spending more time in a pub rather than in his service centre.

He was even reeking of the smell of beer when his party bosses came a calling at his hometown and was even incoherent when speaking at a function.

During a recent retreat for the party’s elected representatives, he not only came late for the function and again smelled more like a brewery, said another MP.

The lawyer-turned-politician had won his seat under the tide of the political tsunami in 2008 has also been staying away from the office provided by the state party but instead claims that he is operating from his legal office.

Party insiders claimed that the seat was not an easy one to win and the state leadership was upset that he “spent more time in the pub” than serving the constituents.

Sources said the party leadership is also upset with his lack of interest during debates in Parliament and was often seen spending more time in members’ lounge “hobnobbing” with Barisan Nasional MPs.

A member of the party’s think-tank admitted that this errant MP was doomed.

“A successor is being identified and the incumbent will be dropped,” the party worker said.

This MP also does not get along well with the state leadership and has not participated in many of the party’s programme.

“He will only appear if the newspaper photographers are there. He just wants to appear in the newspapers hoping that this will fool the party leaders into thinking he is working hard,” said a state leader.
