Wisma Putra officers abroad appointed as Asst Registrars to register absentee voters

KUALA LUMPUR - All Ministry of Foreign Affairs officers based in Malaysian missions abroad have been appointed as Assistant Registrars by the Election Commission (EC) since April 29.

According to the EC report titled "The Government's Response to Suhakam Annual Report 2010" published by the Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister's Department here Friday, the appointments served to facilitate registration of eligible Malaysian voters abroad as absentee voters.

On the issue of the armed forces and police voters' registry, the report said both entities updated the EC with records of retirement, termination of service and deaths from time to time.

The report also stated, the EC updated the voters' registry throughout the year based on information from government agencies such as the National Registration Department, Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police via their smart-partnership programme.
