500 working visas per day for Myanmar workers

The Malaysian embassy in Yangon increases granting visas for Myanmar workers, up from 200 previously.

YANGON: The Malaysian embassy in Myanmar”s Yangon today started granting working visas for Myanmar workers at a quota of 500 persons per day, up from 200 previously, according to local media.

The visa quota set for employment agency services was also raised to 25 from 15, starting from the same day, the Weekly Eleven said.

So far, 99 overseas employment services agencies are honored by the Malaysian embassy.

According to statistics, the number of Myanmar workers, legally employed to work in 15 foreign countries, reached 330,311 as of 2010 since 1990 and such overseas workers had fetched for the country over 17 million U.S dollars.

As part of its bid to ease its domestic employment problem, Myanmar”s Ministry of Labor has sought job opportunities for Myanmar workers since 1990.

Through 123 overseas employment agencies, Myanmar citizens are seeking overseas jobs and are mostly destined to such countries as Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Libya, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, Switzerland, Brunei Darussalam, the United Arab Emirates, America, France, Germany, Qatar and Kuwait.
