Another Kita official gets the boot

This time, central executive member, Zahrein Zakaria, is sacked for allegedly portraying himself to be 'part of the party's leadership'.

PETALING JAYA: While the storm over the recent sacking of Rashid Azad Khan and Abdul Latiff Tambi has yet to settle down, another Kita member was given the boot for apparently misleading the public.

Central Executive Committee (CEC) member, Zahrein Zakariah, was sacked by the party’s leadership for allegedly “claiming that he was part of the CEC”.

Kita’s working secretary, Masrum Dayat, in a letter dated Sept 23, said that Zahrein should not have claimed to be part of the party leadership while his appointment to the CEC has yet to be confirmed.

Zahrein said: “The letter, signed by Masrum, stated that my attendance at the CEC meetings thus far were only to get my opinion on certain issues.”

Last week, Zahrein called on Kita president, Zaid Ibrahim, to apologise to the party members for making decisions without consulting CEC members.

Zahrein had criticised Zaid’s decision to sack treasurer Rashid and central secretary Latiff and suspend CEC member, Muhammad Firdaus Christopher, for six months.

Zaid, a former law minister, also received brickbats for his decision to conduct roadshows in support of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s announcement to repeal the Internal Security Act.

Zahrein told FMT that he would issue a press statement on his dismissal later today. When contacted, Masrum refused to comment on Zahrein’s sacking.
