MAILBAG: End of PPSMI if Pakatan wins? AirAsia the bully?

MAILBAG: End of PPSMI if Pakatan wins? AirAsia the bully?

Will it be the end of PPSMI if Pakatan Rakyat is voted into power

While the present government is still dragging its feet in studying the possibility of having both PPSMI (Teaching and Learning Of Science and Mathematics in English) and MBMMBI running concurrently, Pengerusi Lajnah Pendidikan, Datuk Abu Bakar Chik was recently reported as saying that PAS totally rejected PPSMI and even questioned PAGE’s struggles. (http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/174366)

It seems to me that PKR and PAS have publicly objected to and totally rejected PPSMI while DAP appears to prefer having PPSMI option in national schools, with science and mathematics taught in Mandarin and Tamil in vernacular schools. Combined, PAS and PKR simply overwhelm DAP on this issue.

With many parents from both urban and rural areas, including Malays clamoring for PPSMI, we should both implemented concurrently in Sekolah Kebangsaan. Parents will then having a choice of either English or Bahasa Malaysia (with Mandarin and Tamil in the vernacular schools) as the medium of instruction for both these subjects. This would be fairest and most accommodating to all.

With GE13 expected soon, it is time pro-PPSMI parents (who are perceived minority but actually silent majority) consider carefully who and which party to vote for. We must make brave and educated decision by voting for a government that is prepared to implement education policies fairly, especially those specifically provided for in the education acts and does not run contrary to the constitution of our country. The people’s constitutional right to PPSMI must not be left to the whims of politicians!

Pakatan Rakyat, tell us NOW, not after the elections, of your plans for PPSMI if any.

Air Asia bullying foreign passport holders

Good day.

As a foreign passport holder, when making travel bookings with Air Asia online, they give me no alternative but to pay RM 30 x 2, (1 for each leg). for their seat selection.

When my wife books with Air Asia on her Malaysian passport, the booking seat fee can be taken out.

I wonder why they discriminate against foreign passport holders and I intend to take this matter up with the Australian consumer authorities as I find it a most unfair practice.

Best regards,

John

  1. The fact that PKR and PAS have been strong opponents of PPSMI had been downplayed by the local English media. It's about time those who are concerned about the standard of English in Malaysia look around and look at the mirror to see where they've gone wrong in pushing their agenda. For example, the majority of Malays don't like it when anyone comes up with a statement or action of affront to the National Language. Many questions are dying for answers, like why are most local websites in English only? They must accept that it won't push the left-out masses to learn English; perhaps it'll make them despise English more. I've been to many Malay news sites where I see many unsavoury comments about English.
