Fresh from losing a suit over illegal occupation of a settler's land, the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority, or FELCRA, is under spotlight again.
Last week, 37 settlers from Felcra Nasarudin (Belia) in Bota, Perak filed police reports against the land authority alleging frauds and abuse in granting of land titles and land development cost.
Led by settler Yusuf Mat, 50, and his others, the police reports were lodged at Seri Iskandar police station.
According to Yusuf, Felcra Nasaruddin (Belia) was opened for palm oil and rubber plantation in 1973, giving each 10 acres of land as stated in an agreement.
However, to date, Yusuf claimed that the settlers had not received the copy of the signed agreement despite numerous requests to Felcra headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
“In March 2009, we were forced to sign a document for replantation projects and Felcra promised to provide us 10 acres of land.
"Then in July 2009, we were granted rights on the land, but only received seven acres,” he told Mohd Nasaie Ismail, who heads the Klang Valley chapter of Felda Settlers' Children Association (ANAK).
Yusuf, who heads Perak's Felcra Participants Action Front (BAPA), explained that the settlers were disappointed with Felcra for not fulfilling its promise, adding that the settlers believed that the land development cost which had been cut from the total dividend received by them thus far was based on the calculation of 10 acres land, and this was deemed very unfair to them.
“We regard this as fraud and abuse of power when the agreement letters are never given to us to get the real information on the status of our land,” he said.
BAPA's national chairman Razman Zakaria said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would also be notified.
“The settlers who have been shortchanged must not be afraid to act for justice because every settler has rights as agreed,” said Razman.
He expressed confidence that the 37 settlers would win their case in court following the court victory of Mohamad Ramly Sanji, who won a suit over Felcra's attempt to take over his two-hectare property in Kacu Tapah, Perak.
