UPDATED Stories about BN politicians resorting to rough-neck action to get the Chinese electorate to vote for them are intensifying as the country prepares of an electoral battle that pundits say will be the mother of all battles.
Subang Jaya assemblywoman Hannah Yeoh broadcast on her Twitter an incident reflecting the intimidating air that is starting to build around the country as BN components such as Umno, MCA, Gerakan and MIC fight for survival against the Pakatan Rakyat led by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Hannah, a fast-rising DAP politician who scored an upset win in the 2008 polls, told of how she had helped one of her constituents send a follow-up letter to a federal government department.
She did not say what the letter was about or to which department, but the constituent was called up, scolded and warned to vote BN.
"I helped a resident in sending a letter of follow up to a federal dept Resident was called in, was asked why seeked help fr DAP& not MCA. MCA man was present when she was called in," said Hannah.
"Words used "DAP #&$$@#", resident upset. She was warned by that civil servant to vote for BN. She was told 'if u dont vote for BN, we can trace u'.
Military intelligence to assess MCA's winnability
Meanwhile, the Sin Chew daily has reported that military intelligence officers (MIOs) were interviewing the MCA's potential candidates for the next general election, widely expected to take place next year.
According to the news report, MIOs interviewed the MCA candidates to gauge their ability to win in the state and parliamentary seats.
“They are being assessed in four areas educational background, economic skills, experience and personality ,” sources told the Chinese daily.
But MCA secretary-general Kong Cho Ha has denied such a thing.
“I do not know where Sin Chew Daily got the information. As far as I know, MIOs don't go around interviewing people. I have been a candidate for the last three terms and I have never been interviewed by any intelligence officer,” Star reported him as saying.
