Prevent Malaysia from going bankrupt

Prevent Malaysia from going bankrupt

For the past few years, the UMNO/BN government under Prime Minister Najib Razak has carelessly spent our money for the running of the government, development and for his own personal use, which is still not verified. Does that mean the next few years will be the same? It continues to cost hundreds of billions each year to sustain the country for no apparent achievements or success year after year.

But let us be honest about this. The money spent, much of it was borrowed, just compare, the recent budget was just about RM230 billion while the national debt in 2010 was RM407 billion.

No accident Idris said it again

These issues emerged from reading and listening to the news should make any responsible Malaysian to think and ponder, how long must this go on? Now the time has come to begin paying that bill, along with other debts caused by ill-managed economy and the callous management of the country, if not, Idris Jala has again reminded us grimly that Malaysia can go bankrupt.

The fact that Idris was allowed to express his findings freely and openly means that the government does agree with him. The idea is to tell the people, let the facts sink in slowly in their minds and eventually accept the inevitable; that the government has no choice but to impose the austerity drive.

This should have taken place even before the 2008 general election but the government was then facing the dilemma of losing votes. This has continued until today but UMNO/BN government is reluctant to reduce spending; they are willing to let the country fail rather than lose their power.

So nothing will be done and we will still be carrying on with our daily lives oblivious to the signs and facts that another Greece is in the making.

The turmoil that can happen

When the UMNO/BN government starts defaulting in re-payments when no extra funds are available, the bourse is suspended indefinitely; the economy and country will be in turmoil. At the same time we will find it impossible to make ends meet, there will be more poor people and most of the middle-income group will disappear, employment will increase, crime rate will increase too and eventually all sorts of demonstrations and riots will spring out everywhere; resulting in deaths and destruction of properties.

When Malaysia then begs for international funds, we will again be colonized and Malaysia will then in reality not be a sovereign nation anymore.

There must be another organized movement similar to BERSIH or the infamous Himpunan to undertake this cause to the rakyat and government that this is a matter of our survival and not just politics.

Someone must start the “PREVENT MALAYSIA FROM BANKRUPT” campaign. I am too old for that.
