Another Umno MP tells Shahrizat to quit

Kalabakan Member of Parliament Abdul Ghapur Salleh wants Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to quit the posts she holds in the party and government.

He wants Shahrizat to take that step over the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) controversy, and for the good of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno in the coming 13th general election.

According to Bernama, the Kalabakan Umno division chief said this when asked to comment on the issue after a mass circumcision event for children in Merotai at Kampung Pasir Putih in Tawau today.

Abdul Ghapur is the second Umno MP after Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin to openly urge Shahrizat to quit over the scandal.

Pressure has been mounting on Shahrizat to quit, but the Umno leadership have yet to make an official stand on this.

Asked on the controversy yesterday, Umno vice president Hishammuddin Hussein said party leaders should know when to step down and refused to be drawn into the fray.

The controversy surrounds the appointment of a company owned by Shahrizat family in 2007 to handle the cattle rearing project.

The Auditor-General's Report 2010 had called the NFC accounts a "mess" while PKR had unveiled questionable investments by the company.

This includes purchasing luxury condominiums, a luxury car and prime land - all of which are not related to cattle rearing - using a RM250 million softloan footed by ratepayers.
