Beware of BN's seige mentality: Malaysia will zoom ahead without it

Beware of BN's seige mentality: Malaysia will zoom ahead without it
Before leaving for South Africa, Najib Razak made a bee-line to Ulu Selangor where he gave a rousing speech to UMNO members there. From what was reported by the main-stream media, the crowds were seated and obviously bored. The looks on their faces showed it, and though one can hear shouts of laughter now and then in the background, the glee was all was too clearly orchestrated for the benefit of the TV stations.
But there is no doubt about it. Selangor rests heavy on the mind of the prime minister and he is personally seeing to it that the state is won back by the Barisan Nasional come GE-13. Otherwise, UMNO and BN will surely go bankrupt with party warlords upset by a lack of 'lucrative deals' as Selangor is the country's richest state.
Silly words from Najib
What Najib said in his speech also drew a laugh or two from the audience - perhaps, the only genuine highlights of the event. The prime minister was talking about development being in the hands of Barisan Nasional. Vote BN into power in Selangor and enjoy development was his sales pitch. In Najib's mind, development has been hampered by the Pakatan government. He painted the picture that the people have suffered during the Pakatan's 4-year rule. But ask them and you will get the completely opposite reply!
Nevertheless, thick-skinned Najib went on to say that only BN has the experience to bring about development to the Selangor. Experience and know-how are the hall-marks of BN, according to Najib Razak. Only BN can bring this to Selangor and make it 'happen' for Selangorians.
However, Najib's statement defies logic and rationale. It actually reminds one of the Times Magazine Person of the Year for 2011, which was The Protestor. A nameless face that encompasses the thousands in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and America who have stood up, banded together and spoke out against the government which they undoubtedly voted in.
The Protestor also pays tribute to the spirit of the individual that seeks to find security in the place that it occupies. And the word “occupy” was the word for 2011. When all else failed, when governments failed to listen to its people, they occupied space and time to send their message through.
For 54 years, BN has occupied the Malaysian landscape and many a Malaysian grew up living on the lies that the only government capable of leading Malaysia is BN. And it was this brain-washing of the people that allowed BN to freely do as it wished.
Brainwashing and squandering public money
The squandering of public money on projects that benefit their cronies and friends is rampant. Look at the National Feedlot Corporation scandal and one can see how the only thing on the minds of BN is to enrich those within their circle at the cost of the simple folks, who are left a penny poorer each time.
Even zakat or tithe money is not spared. It seems that the authorities have justified the use of zakat money to pay off legal fees, opening up a myriad of other questions about the use of money meant for religious purposes. For example, a while back, Tabung Haji lost a substantial amount of its money. And the question that begs an answer is, how could Tabung Haji allow such a thing to happen in the first place?Weren't there guidelines, checks and balances?
Making money disappear
And what about the state of our economy, have things really been better for Malaysia in the 54 years BN has been in power or are we stuck in a perpetual state of work-in-progress?
In an era where many Malaysians still live under the poverty line, does this not indicate that BN has in fact failed at their job? Heck, they had 54 years to do the job yet still failed at bringing clean water and electricity to the folks in Sarawak. Yes, Barisan Nasional is experience - a nasty experience!
BN is experienced at making public money disappear, encouraging corruption at all levels of society, repressing the free voice of the masses, sucking dry the judiciary of its independence, selecting morons to run for Parliament, encouraging a divide in Malaysian society along racial and religious lines, flip-flopping policies that amount to nothing and hiding cowardly under a veil of lies to distract the people from the truth.
Nobody and nothing is perfect even if BN insists it is so
Nobody is perfect and this also applies to BN. But sad to say, BN has failed to make any real initiative to right their wrongs. - to improve themselves, to be a better government or even to apologise for the mistakes they have made.
And come election time, we still hear the same old messages and lies - that development and stability can only be attained if BN remains as the government of the day. Isn't it sickening? The fact is Malaysians can be better off without a government that flops about like a diseased whale.
Malaysians are resilient and capable of making their mark on the world. We are able to make ends meet and improve our standing in the universe. It is only BN that keeps telling us we cannot.
This siege mentality has to end, and Malaysians should stand up and tell BN to take a long rest and allow other people to do the job they have failed to do all these 54 years.
