While police are still investigating the three mysterious explosions outside the Duta court complex on Monday, the Umno-ownedUtusan Malaysia today quoted a police source as saying that the homemade bombs are believed to have been brought in by participants of the “901 Free Anwar” rally.
On its frontpage story today, the Malay daily quoted an anonymous police source who explained that police personnel had inspected the court complex compound before the rally began and found nothing dangerous.Preliminary investigations show that the bombs were brought by those who took part in the rally, the police source was quoted as saying.
“Besides a thorough inspection, the area was guarded by police personnel a day before the rally.
“Moreover, a final inspection was carried out before rally participants were allowed to gather at the area, and no dangerous object was found,” the source told the daily, adding that the investigation took some time as no CCTV was installed in the area.
This newspaper report is the first to link the bomb explosions to 901 rally participants. To date, no police official has speculated on the culprit's identity.
Five people were injured in three explosions in the vicinity of the Duta court complex after the High Court delivered its verdict on Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case.
