GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia - The kindergarten in Air Itam was raided because it did not have the approval to operate in a residential area, said DAP.
Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also state DAP chairman, said the kindergarten's principal Katherine Choong had admitted to not having approval to operate the kindergarten there.
"It has nothing to do with politics and the kindergarten has been raided twice before," said Chow, brushing aside allegations that DAP members had lodged complaints against the kindergarten.
He said the raid was conducted after neighbours lodged complaints.
Choong had claimed she overheard one of the officers saying that the kindergarten was a BN kindergarten during the raid.
Meanwhile, neighbours admitted they had reported the kindergarten to Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) because they could not tolerate the "disturbances" caused by it.
However, the neighbours declined to comment when asked if they were DAP members.
One neighbour, who only wanted to be known as Teoh, said she had to put up with the noise coming from the kindergarten and also traffic obstruction caused by parents who parked their cars in front of her gate.
MPPP said in a statement that the raid was conducted because the kindergarten owner had operated a business establishment in a house in a residential area.
