'First Lady of Shopping' reported to MACC

PKR-linked NGO Jingga 13 lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) today, urging it to investigate allegations that the prime minister's spouse Rosmah Mansor is a profligate shopper, while holidaying in Australia.

The group quoted a Malaysiakini report citing an article in Australian daily Sydney Morning Herald by columnist Andrew Hornery calling Rosmah the "First Lady of Shopping" for her alleged RM300,000 shopping spree at well-known Sydney-based fashion designer Carl Kapp's luxury boutique.

NONEAt a press conference prior to lodging the report, the group's chief coordinator Fariz Musa (left) repeated the challenge to Rosmah, to sue the publication, Hornery and Kapp himself who confirmed the matter if it is truly a slander.

In filing the report at the anti-graft body's office in Shah Alam, the NGO urged it to look close at where Rosmah got the money for what they labelled as "wastrel and profligate spending".

Something which they believe is a slap in the face for Malaysians living with depressed wages and steeply rising cost of living.

"If she is sponsored by someone for such luxurious shopping, by whom?" asked Fariz.

Rosmah has denied the allegations in the article, describing it as "wild exaggerations", bemoaning that she is once more the target of such alleged slander.

Hornery however has stood by his story, claiming that he has a rock solid source.

carl kapp sydney designerKapp also confirmed that Rosmah is in his clientèle list, though denied having revealed any dollar figure to the actual cost of Rosmah's purchase of 61 of his custom-made luxury fashion pieces.

In an apparent counter-attack, a pro-Umno blogger known as Pisau and BN-friendly Kulim Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin had accused Hornery of being gay and thus "linked" somehow to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat and is among "Australia's worst journalists", quoting a website.

Undeterred, Hornery proudly admitted his lifestyle choice and criticised the attempts to cast aspersions on his character, as akin to shooting the messenger for bringing unfavourable news.

He also disputed his "worst journalist" garland as being the work of a person who did not like what he wrote in article about the person.
