Perak Religious Dept raids OWC's 'pure sex' forum

The Perak Islamic Affairs Department yesterday raided a forum by the Obedient Wives Club (OWC) which was said to promote “pure sex”.

According to Berita Harian, the department had at 4.15pm raided a luxury bungalow in Ipoh, where the club was hosting the forum in conjunction with the club's 'The prophet is the icon of pure sex' campaign.

Fifty attendees from OWC and Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd, founded by former members of outlawed deviant group al-Arqam, were reportedly "stunned" when 10 officers raided the event at Persiaran Harimau.

NONEPerak Islamic Affairs Department director Yusop Husin told the daily the group is being investigated for portraying  Prophet Muhammad in a negative light and statements will be taken from the members.

OWC president Fauziah Ariffin, however, insisted that they are not doing anything wrong and are in fact putting the prophet on a pedestal as an example to follow.

"We should follow how the prophet lived his life, including in the area of sex... Islam allows sex, but only between husband and wife," she was quoted as saying by the daily.

This was supported by OWC leaders in Kuala Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu, the newspaper reported.

The raid was also reported by English dailies The Star and the New Straits Times, which quoted Selangor mufti Mohd Tamyes Abdul Whid as saying the campaign was degrading.

Mohd Tamyes said the "highly unsual campaign" in honour of the prophet's birthday on Feb 5 is not proper as the prophet "did not just marry for sex".

"He married women from different tribes to bring the Arabs together and spread Islam," he said, calling for a more tactful and discreet way to campaign against illicit sex.
