Freak storm wreaks havoc in Taman Desa (with VIDEO)

PETALING JAYA: A freak storm wreaked havoc in Taman Desa near here, while the heavy rains caused traffic gridlocks on various Klang Valley roads Wednesday evening.
Motorists stuck in traffic sent out tweets on the crawl along a number of roads and highways, while others tweeted about the situation in Taman Desa looking like "a war zone", with fallen trees and branches blocking access roads.image
According to one tweet, exits out of Taman Desa through Bukit Desa to Jalan Klang Lama were blocked by the fallen trees. Another said Jalan Desa Utama was blocked as well.
There were also reports of cars damaged by falling trees.
A resident in the Faber Ria condominium said her living room windows caved in, while fruit stalls along Jalan Desa Utama were wrecked.
She added that houses along the road had no power, and some lamp posts and trees had fallen near shoplots, smashing some cars.
Traffic was reported to be heavy on the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) between Damansara and Subang, while the Jalan Duta was flooded, according to some tweets.
Meanwhile, in PUTRAJAYA, a flash flood caused by the heavy rain rendered part of a road in Precinct 8 temporarily impassable to all vehicles.
Many motorists resorted to using alternative routes.
Nearby residents said the flash flood was caused by the clogged monsoon drain. - Star
