Hisham’s provocative conditions: Save the doublespeak and free Anwar!

Hisham’s provocative conditions: Save the doublespeak and free Anwar!
Contrary to their usual belligerent stance towards opposition parties, the police invited PKR to discuss their rally planned for the 9th. Even more surprisingly, Azmin Ali was able to announce after the meeting that the police had allowed the rally provided it was peaceful.
Those who heard this news were perplexed and disbelieving. Why had the police suddenly started behaving in a civil matter to PKR and what dastardly plan could they be plotting?
Low-level Machiavelli
In the event, the police would reverse their position before the day was out, declaring that PKR must meet 10 conditions to hold the rally. Among these was that only 2 loud-hailers were allowed. This is a particularly insulting condition as the participants and organizers of the rally are all adults.
Neither the police nor anybody else can tell them how many loud-hailers or pencils or keychains  they can carry around with them. They are, of course, welcome to pass legislation that would set such numerical targets for such items. Until such time as so daft a law is passed, citizens may carry as many as they wish.
Participants were also not allowed to shout pro-Anwar chants. In the event that it has escaped the attention of whichever bottom-of-the-class dimwit in the police force who came up with this one, we must remind him that this rally is in support of Anwar Ibrahim.
Therefore, yes, there will be pro-Anwar chants! There will also be pro-Anwar banners, for the same reason, since the police have banned banners too. Nor will the police allow speeches, which the rally organizers and the odd participant obviously make.
The police, by imposing arbitrarily such conditions, appear to have set a scenario where they can act against the rally and then claim the conditions were breached. Not only is this hypocritical, it is lowly machiavellian machination contrary to their role of safeguards of public order.
Police rush to assume PKR agreed to conditions
The police appear to have taken the stand that these conditions were discussed and PKR had agreed to it. PKR denies it. Indeed there would have been little reason for PKR to agree to such constrictive terms. For the rally would have gone on whether the police agreed to it or not.
The BN and its apologists in the form of the mainstream media have taken the position that it is a court decision that should be abided by. But the fact is that the people no longer trust the nations’s institutions and do not believe in the impartiality of the police or the judiciary.
Without this trust, the system cannot work. The BN has gone too far with its meddlings in these institutions and they are now compromised by association, and by past decision.
In any event, no sane observer of Anwar’s trial would find it credible, rather it appears to be a collection of inconsistencies and outright lies held together only by singular malicious purpose.
Anwar Ibrahim does not deserve what the authorities have planned for him tomorrow. Neither do the people of Malaysia, every one of whom will be the lesser for the jailing of Anwar Ibrahim. They will have lost a leader that they need desperately in this dark time for the Malaysian nation.
Malaysia is beset not only by the greed of evil men within the country, but faces a gathering economic storm from without. And more than anything else Malaysia and its institutions need reform now, so that we may survive and prosper in the future.
Free Anwar!
