DAP National Chairperson Karpal Singh today candidly sought to bury his spat with party deputy secretary-general P Ramasamy.
In his speech at the national DAP congress in Shah Alam today, Karpal light heartedly said that the party needs both 'godfathers' and 'warlords'.
"I call upon everyone here, members of the DAP, close ranks. Let the warlords and godfathers get together to get at the BN.
"I can assure you the godfathers have a lot of fire in their bellies," he quipped, as the floor applauded and cheered.
The comments come after a protracted war of words between the two DAP leaders, which saw Karpal demanding Ramasamy's resignation as Penang Deputy Chief Minister II.
This was after Ramasamy'sinterview in an English daily in which he reportedly alluded that some party members were corrupt, despite a gag order issued by the party leadership on the dispute.
Despite the lighthearted tone, Karpal reiterated that the party encourages new blood but the contribution of the old must not be forgotten.
Earlier Karpal recounted how DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and himself had sacrificed by either being detained under the Internal Security Act or being jailed in the past for the party.
"That is the level of our commitment, these are the sacrifices that have been made by DAP and the leaders," he declared.
"DAP had been fighting alone against BN but we are no longer alone, we have with us now PKR and PAS, it is Pakatan Rakyat now."
