DAP's Bukit Bendera member of parliament has lashed out at the managing director of hypermarket operator Mydin for his remarks questioning the public declaration of assets by Penang Exco members.
Ameer Ali Mydin had earlier suggested through his Twitter post that the assets declaration had come three years after Pakatan Rakyat's takeover of the Penang state government so that the Exco members had time to transfer their assets to their family members.
"After 3 years so can trust ke," asked Ameer, who was earlier embroiled in a war of words with several PR parliamentarians over revelations that products under Mydin-run Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia were unhealthy and more expensive.
In response, Liew urged Ameer to prove his claim and hand evidences to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission or the police.
"Otherwise, as a responsible corporate figure, he must withdraw his remarks immediately," he said in a statement to Harakahdaily.
"The asset declaration exercise was conducted and verified by the renowned international accounting firm, KPMG," he added.
Yesterday, Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng made political history when he joined his Exco members in declaring their assets in public, turning its much-publicised principles of Competency, Accountability, Transparency, or CAT, into action.
Details of their wealth have been posted on the state government's online portal.
