The PPP says it will pursue a request for an additional off day for Deepvali.
Its president Datuk Seri M.Kayveas said the Indians, as the third largest community in the country, felt they deserved the extra break as the other communities enjoyed for Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.
“This is also in line with the 1Malaysia spirit to allow other races join the Indian community for the Deepavali celebration. It will be good if the Government could consider this request,” he told reporters at the PPP's 1Malaysia Christmas and New Year open house.
On the next general election, Kayveas said the PPP was working towards securing more seats for the party.
