Form Five student claims assault by police

A Form Five student has claimed that he was roughed up by two police officers to the extent that he fractured his right shoulder in an incident at a supermarket in Bertam Perdana 3 near Butterworth on Feb 11.

Ahmad Faiz Mohd Nordin, 17, and his younger brother Ahmad Firdaus, 14, were then buying coconut milk at the supermarket located about one kilometre from their house, said their elder brother, Ahmad Fuad, 33.

"When Ahmad Faiz was selecting the goods at the supermarket, a man attired in a dark T-shirt and long pants ordered him to come out of the outlet.

"Shocked, my brother remained inside the supermarket because he did not know the man," he told a news conference held at the office of the law firm Messrs Rosidi & Haaryzan at the Sunway Business Centre, in Butterworth, Penang.

Also present were Ahmad Faiz, his father Mohd Nordin Mohd Tahir and lawyer Azizi Abd Hadi.

Ahmad Fuad said the man did not identify himself as a policeman or show his authority card but entered the supermarket and dragged his brother out.

He said that the recording of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera at the supermarket showed a policeman in uniform and clutch his brother by the neck from the rear.

"At the same time, the man in mufti kicked Ahmad Faiz on a shin, causing him to almost fall. They then brought him to a police sergeant on duty at a community police post nearby," he said.

At the post, his brother was asked to produce his identity card and motorcycle licence and was issued with a summons for not wearing a crash helmet.

Ahmad Fuad said a medical examination at Seberang Jaya Hospital on Feb 13 showed up a fracture on his brother's right shoulder.

He said he took along his brother and lodged a report at the Seberang Perai Utara police station today after collecting evidence, including the CCTV recording.

Meanwhile, Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Zulkifli Alias, when contacted, confirmed that Ahmad Faiz had made a police report and an investigation was ongoing.
