Kiddie 'sex education book' bares all

Umno Youth wants the Home Ministry to review an imported children 'sex education book' that contains "extreme and highly explicit pornogaphic content".

NONE"We already have proper guidelines on importation of foreign books. How come this book got past?" asked the wing's Community Complaints Bureau chief Muhd Khairun Aseh at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was commenting on a book entitled ‘Where Did I Come From’, which is available at a local book chain store.

The book that Muhd Khairun showed to reporters featured cartoon-style illustrations of the naked male and female form, complete with genitalia.

It also showed illustrations of the male and female engaging in sexual intercourse.

"But more than just the illustrations, the contents of the book are also very disturbing," warned Muhd Khairun further.

He showed several passages from the book which describes the male and female genitals in detail.

Muhd Khairun also read out a passage which explicitly describe the act of sexual intercourse and how the male and female genitalia function during this process.

Memo to ministry

The highly-explicit book is couched in simple language and, according to Muhd Khairun, was placed on shelves for books for children aged 12 and below.

He said the sale of the book is in violation of Section 292 of the Penal Code, which deals with distribution or sale of pornographic materials.

Umno Youth, he said, will send a memo tomorrow to the Home Ministry secretary-general to urge an investigation and offering full cooperation.

Muhd Khairun said there have been several complaints about pornographic materials in children's books and comics, but that this is one case in which evidence has been obtained.

As another possible solution to bar the entry of unsuitable reading materials into the country, Umno Youth wants an update to the National Book Policy.

This would also enable some 5,550 or so local authors and 8,184 publishers the opportunity to produce materials that fit in with local sensitivities, he added.
