Politics of unity, not divisiveness

While Dr Chua is ripping at the very idea of an Islamic state, has he ever stopped to consider that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has already declared Malaysia an Islamic nation?
The Malaysian Insider
WANTED: National politicians who speak the language of unity rather than divisiveness.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek appears to have a penchant for scare-mongering that borders on sadness. Every few weeks, he tells Malaysians that a vote for Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is a vote for PAS.
He must believe that this tactic will persuade the Malays, Chinese and Indians to desert PR. This tactic is offensive because it insults the intelligence of Malaysians. Also, it has its roots in chauvinism and racism.
Incidentally, when PAS booted Datuk Dr Hasan Ali out off its ranks, it was sending a message that it did not tolerate extremism or chauvinism.
After all, Hasan wanted to keep PAS on the straight and narrow of its basic Islamic state concept, not a welfare state that PAS says is fair to all.
While Dr Chua is ripping at the very idea of an Islamic state, has he ever stopped to consider that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has already declared Malaysia an Islamic nation?
That there are already rules that restrict Malaysian Muslims from enjoying the full benefits of citizenship unlike other citizens?
What difference would PAS bring that Dr Chua rails against them? Please articulate this rather than scaring people.
Apart from saying the National Feedlot Centre issue has been mishandled, what else has the MCA leader said? Perhaps he should fight for transparency in government awards and tenders and the issuance of soft loans.
Let’s discuss issues that matter, sir. Malaysians look to you and your colleagues to bring Malaysia forward, not by slagging off your opponents, but through a measured debate of things that matter.
If the majority of Malaysians want to vote for PR as they have done in the past for BN, so be it.
We live in a democracy. And Malaysians are mature enough to vote for a better future. Right now, saying PAS is a bad option because it will lead to an Islamic state is just downright insulting.
