Two Selangor GLCs face public probe

Two government-linked companies in Selangor will come under scrutiny for alleged mismanagement of funds, when a series of public hearings kicks off next month.

The companies under the Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Selangor are said to have misused grants from the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry.

“The matter was mentioned in the Auditor General’s Report,” Selangor speaker Teng Chang Kim said in a press conference at the state assembly building today.

The public hearings will be conducted by the Selangor legislative assembly’s Select Committee for Competency Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

It will also probe Yayasan Selangor for alleged lavish spending, and reopen investigations into sand-mining concessionaire Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).

“Yayasan Selangor must be called to give an explanation. That is how we monitor,” Teng said.

He also called on those who have more information to allegations of misconduct in any of the companies above to contact his office so that they can be included in the list of witnesses to be called.

Irregularities in both KSSB and Yayasan Selangor were brought up in an internal state audit.

Teng said that during the public hearings slated for March 5 until 7, Selcat will call “all those responsible”.

However, he made the distinction that Selcat’s purview is to monitor for mismanagement and make suggestions to the state government for improvements to be made.

“For any criminal or graft element, the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will have to investigate,” offered Teng.
