Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim will file defamation lawsuits against political foe S Nallakaruppan, Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd, the owner of Umno-controlled newspaper Utusan Malaysia and its Editor for RM100 million each over a recent news report alleging that he was bisexual and unfit for political office.
Anwar will be accompanied by his lawyer R Sivarasa, who will submit the documents at the Jalan Duta courts in Kuala Lumpur on Monday at 11am.
"The allegations which are attributed to S Nallakaruppan are completely false, politically motivated and the worst kind of gutter journalism. Prime Minister and UMNO President Najib Razak is fully responsible for this vile attack made by the UMNO-owned Utusan Malaysia upon Anwar Ibrahim," PKR vice president N Surendran had said in a recent statement.
"Instead of agreeing to Anwar's challenge for a public debate on policies and the economy, Najib has resorted to the lowest kind of character assassination through Utusan Malaysia. Utusan Malaysia's intolerance and lack of scruples reveals the true face of Umno and Najib, and makes nonsense of Najib's show of moderation and reform."
Part of Umno's 'sex, sex, sex' brigade against Anwar
Nallakaruppan is the former MIC Youth Chief, who used to be the nominee of ex-MIC president S Samy Vellu on various money-making deals which the then Works Minister put together. But the two fell out, allegedly over the spoils of the schemes, and Nalla tried to seek refuge from Anwar, who was then the deputy prime minister.
When Anwar was jailed on trumped-up sodomy charges in 1998, Nalla changed his testimony and became anti-Anwar. Now, together with Ezam Mohd Noor, a PKR turncoat who has since joined Umno, and the notorious Ummi Halifa, the trio make regular appearances in the press or in the ceramah or political lecture circuit where their sole purpose seems to be to go all out to smear Anwar.
The 64-year-old Opposition Leader was acquitted and discharged of the 1998 sodomy charges he has accused former premier Mahathir Mohamad of plotting against him, but only after spending 6 years in jail.
In 2008, current Umno president and prime minister, Najib Razak, tried to borrow Mahathir's script and launched a new sodomy case against Awar, but the High Court found Anwar innocent of all charges.
