KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The government will spend almost RM15 million this year as part of a package plan to reward deserving primary school principals, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
The deputy prime minister said the “new deal”, called Penganugerahan Bayaran Intensif Tawaran Baru (BITB), was introduced in 2010 and was now in the second round of its first phase.
“Today, the government will spend almost RM15 million to reward teachers and support staff who have fulfilled criteria in their schools. The (Education) Ministry will present an allocation warrant to all state education department directors.
“It is expected that almost 14,000 primary school staff will benefit from this intensive new deal,” he said.
Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, said 403 out of 7,635 schools nationwide were recipients of the “new deal” last year.
Of the 403 schools, 300 were national schools, 97 were vernacular schools, five religious schools and one Orang Asli school.
“What gives us great pride is the government’s efforts to reduce the education quality gap between rural and urban areas... this has shown success.
“This has been proven when an Orang Asli school, SK Tasik Cini, Pekan, Pahang became a recipient of this new deal,” he added.
