KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — Wedding invitation bearing hadiths and Quranic verses can threaten the sanctity of Islam if they are improperly disposed, the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) said today.
“Holy words in Islam such as ‘Bismillah’ and ‘Assalamualaikum’ cannot easily be used because there is concern they may be abused and placed in improper places,” Jakim director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha was quoted as saying today by Bernama.
“If it’s for the sake of reminding, just writing its meaning would be sufficient,” he added.
When contacted, Kanda & Dinda Wedding Cards owner Mohd Natasha Md Nasir said he always advised customers against printing holy words like “Bismillah”.
“We don’t encourage customers who want to print in ‘Assalamualaikum’ in Jawi script; instead, we advise them to print it in roman script,” he told Bernama today.
