DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang today questioned if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's apology for BN's past mistakes yesterday encompassed the 2009 coup against the Pakatan Rakyat government in Perak.
"Just before he became prime minister, Najib conspired and plotted the illegal and undemocratic power grab in Perak, toppling the democratically-elected Pakatan Rakyat Perak state government headed by (Bukit Gantang MP) Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as Mentri Besar.
"Will Najib (left) apologise for this illegal power grab in Perak?," he said in a press statement today.Lim went on to list out BN's past mistakes including Malaysia's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) plunging to its lowest ever score at 4.3 in 2011 and Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's alleged financial scandals totaling about RM100 billion.
This he said, was succeeded by the recent RM840 million 'bailout' of former MAS chairperson Tajudin Ramli through an out-of-court settlement with Danaharta and several GLCs under Najib's administration.
"Has Najib issued a 'blank cheque' apology, signifying nothing as to enable all the past BN mistakes of abuses of power, corruption and lack of accountability to be repeated in even worse magnitude?"
Lim said he would accept Najib's apology if it was genuine however from the news reports there were no such indications.
"Perhaps we should give the prime minister an opportunity to enumerate past BN mistakes for which he is extending an apology and undertaking not to repeat them, so that Malaysians can conclude whether Najib's apology is genuine and sincere or otherwise."
