The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said that it has not issued a memo to industry players instructing them to be prepared for the 6 percent service tax for prepaid subscribers on July 1.
An irate Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, chairperson of MCMC, said, "The report is highly speculative as no such instruction has been issued on this matter."
Sharil shared that discussions are actively being carried out to find the best and most equitable solution so that consumers will continue to receive affordable communications services that will benefit the rakyat and any such action taken in this regard will not be burdensome on them.
MCMC advised the press to correct their reports immediately as it is confusing and misleading to consumers.
