We didn't cause trouble, they beat us up: Kajang councilors slam overzealous Noh Omar

We didn't cause trouble, they beat us up: Kajang councilors slam overzealous Noh Omar
Kajang municipal councillor Lee Kee Hiong has denied the accusations that she and her colleagues were out to create trouble at groundbreaking ceremony for a new school in Bandar Sungai Long a day ago, which was attended by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Lee and her group of about 20 had worn green T-shirts, which might be the reason for the chorus of complaints from the BN camp, still upset over last Saturday's successful green rally organized by activists and PKR MP Fuziah Salleh against the Lynas rare-earth plant in Kuantan, where some 20,000 people had gathered to show their concern over the possibility of radioactive contamination.
"We went not ‘samseng’ (hooligans) as accused by an Umno minister. This is the SRJK(C) we had fought for over a period of 12 years. We have waited patiently, no way were we going to mess up the ceremony," Lee told the press on Friday, showing a copy of BN’s invitation leaflet which was distributed to her home in Sungai Long, nearby to the school.
"We were assaulted by a group of people, and then Noh showed up to accuse us of making trouble. I was very surprised by this. In fact, I regretted that he didn’t apologise for the incident. We were prevented from entering and were beaten up.”
She was referring to Noh Omar, the Selangor BN deputy chief, and castigated him for not stopping the violence against them.
Handphone and gold chain snatched
Also present at the press conference were several others who were also assaulted. These included colleagues on the Kajang municipal council Cheong Siow Foon and Ng Tien Chee, an aide to Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and and another DAP member.
Cheong told the press conference that the man who assaulted him had also tried to snatch his cellphone, and he had no choice but to fight back.
“I use the cellphone to store photos of my little daughter, from the day she was born until she was 15 months old. I don’t have other copies. I am very angry ....they are not only samseng, but robbers, too. All this happened while the police were around,” said Cheong, adding that it was his right to wear green to show the PM that the movement against Lynas enjoyed widespread public support.
As for DAP member Chan Huan Guan, his gold necklace with a Buddha pendant was snatched from his neck during a scuffle.
Ka Siong: DAP is jealous of BN's achievements
Meanwhile, deputy Education minister Wee Ka Siong has rushed out to defend Noh and accused the Kajang group of political jealousy.
"The actions by DAP’s entourage of present and past municipal councillors had tarnished their image as the ruling coalition of Selangor. It should be pointed out that DAP has never delivered on their promises pertaining to Chinese education," Ka Siong said in a statement.
"When they cannot debunk the fact that BN had delivered on our promises on Chinese education, DAP became unhappy and deemed BN’s contributions as a threat. This could be one of the reasons they tried to cause unease at the said ceremony."
