Will The Cows Boo Or Moo On Friday?

There are two stories about Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in today's Star. First is an interview with Wanita UMNO's No. 2 who wants Shahrizat to just disappear.

  • Wanita Umno deputy chief Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim has renewed her call to Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to step down “to maintain the credibility of the party, the wing, Barisan Nasional and the Government”.
  • Public perception, she added, was that there was something “morally and politically wrong” with the way the NFCorp.. had handled the government loan.
  • ..questioning how NFCorp could get a such a huge loan with only 2% interest rate and a five-year grace period before repayment when it is so difficult for the ordinary people to get loans.
  • “And they are asking how NFCorp could buy cars and condo units with the loan meant for (buying) cows,” she said
  • “Our credibility is at stake. . this is generally what the members are saying. .. hard to meet the people when the image of their leader (Shahrizat) is tarnished.
  • People are poking fun at Wanita and calling us cows'.
  • Najib had already made it clear that he did not want Shahrizat to continue as a minister
  • In the best interest of the party and Wanita, she should go,” she said.
  • "..Takkan kita nak beritahu (don't tell me we have to tell you what to do).”
This Friday, party president Najib Tun Razak is addressing the Wanita UMNO where of course Shahrizat will be present. Since Kamilia says people are "poking fun at Wanita and calling us cows' so will the ladies boo Shahrizat on Friday or will they just moo like cows? We will have to wait and see.

UMNO has a long tradition of parting with its leaders for various reasons. The first party president left the party he founded because he did not fit in. (I think he was actually "booted" out). The second party president was definitely booted out - kicked out right across the football field. The fourth was politely asked to 'take a rest'. The sixth was also kicked out - clear across the football field. Dato Harun was jailed for corruption. Mokhtar Hashim was jailed for complicity in a murder. Another Minister was axed for having an affair with his sister in law. Liwat was kicked out and jailed for corrupt abuse of power. Khir Toyo is now waiting for the axe to fall for corruption. Shahrizat has quit her Cabinet post. Her husband has been charged. Maybe the pace will pick up and the party will take a thorough cleansing. The time is long overdue to get rid of the corrupt.

The second article in The Star is by Joceline Tan here : Victim or political albatross?

  • Umno rank-and-file resent attempts to turn Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil's family problems into a party problem
  • Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim, is appalled by the NFCorp issue.
  • others feel she has become a burden to the party.
  • an overwhelming number feel that the NFCorp fiasco has damaged the party
  • going down in history as the first sitting minister whose husband was charged with CBT.
  • Several Umno division chiefs are so fed-up ...they have asked their Wanita heads not to attend Friday's gathering.

  • I like this part by Joceline the best : '..dressed all in white, with one hand holding on to her eldest son .. and the other, holding a white Prada handbag.'

This last line just so captures the shamelessness that exists in the country. It afflicts the monied classes ie from among those who owe their ill gotten wealth to political connections. There is this extreme level of shamelessness.

As another example, Liwat was acquitted by the Court. Not because the liwat did not take place - but because the Judge said, quite erroneously - that he was not convinced enough. Liwat also appeared in that video with that Chinese girl. The Police have confirmed that video was not a forgery. Two other people also appeared in that video - one of whom stepped forward and clearly identified himself as being with Liwat in the video.

Yet there is no sense of shame among the supporters of Liwat either, especially the non Malays. They see him as their ticket to break the Malay power grip in the country. It is not a crime if you want to break the Malay grip on power. This is a democracy. Vote for whoever you want. But to hoist a moron with no scruples or morals upon your shoulders will be a permanent blemish upon you. Your grandchildren will one day ask, 'Grandpa didnt you have any moral values?'

But they are unfazed. They say, 'so what?' Well if that is the attitude you take, you are doomed. Really doomed. Do what you will.

The same shamelesness seems to afflict our Millionaire's Club aka the Malaysian Cabinet. Among them there are those who honestly feel that they have done no wrong when they or their families rake in the millions using taxpayers funds. Instead of saying sorry, apologising and bowing out with humility or returning the funds, they can shamelessly defend themselves, hire PR quacks to spin lines, pay "con-sultans" a million Ringgit or more to "fix" things and do the devil knows what else. Even when they get charged in Court they still show no remorse.

The only exception to this rule seems to be Datuk Chua Soi Lek. He said, 'Yes its me in that video. I apologise. I hereby resign all my posts.' He did show remorse which his people accepted. Then he stepped forward again and said, 'Yes that is in my past. Now I offer myself to lead my people. Please give me your support'. They made him President of the MCA again.

Well all this is a reflection of the culture you represent. This reflects upon your upbringing. Unfortunately for some, there is no sense of shame. When power and money are concerned anything goes.
