'600 photos and a video and still no arrest'
PKR today sought an appointment with the inspector general of police in order to get answers for seeming inaction over a PKR-MIC brawl in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya on May 2.
According to PKR’s lawyer M Manogaran, the IGP’s special officer ACP Ramli Mohd Yoosuf has promised to contact him later today with a suitable time for them to meet either IGP Ismail Omar, his deputy Khalid Abu Bakar or CID chief Bakri Zinin.
“He also suggested we meet with the Kuala Lumpur police chief, and we will consider this,” he told reporters at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Manogaran (left in photo), who is also DAP’s Teluk Intan MP, had accompanied a group of about 15 PKR members today to hand over a memorandum to the IGP over the fracas, which left three PKR members injured.
He said the group had informed Bukit Aman of their intentions, but neither the IGP, his deputy nor the CID chief was available today to accept the memorandum.
“We told ACP Ramli who was here to accept the memorandum on the IGP’s behalf, that we want to meet the IGP himself as the police have failed to take action despite the evidence lodged,” he said.
He added that the fact that no arrests have been made in the case allegedly also involving MIC Youth chief T Mohan may encourage others to act above the law or become vigilantes.
He said police appear to be “selectively efficient”, acting swiftly in only some cases, like the kidnapping of Dutch boy Nayati Moodliar and Bersih.
The lawyer added that the police have a “statutory duty” to act according to the Police Act and that the perpetrators could be charged under Sections 323, 324 and 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
‘Let the courts decide Mohan’s fate’
“We are not saying that Mohan is a criminal. (PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim is charged for purportedly directing people to breach the barricade (during Bersih 3.0), so Mohan, too, should be charged and let the courts decide if he did any wrong.”
According to alleged assault victims PKR information bureau member K Gunasekaran and Puchong PKR secretary S Gobi Krishnan, about 600 photographs and a video of the incident were submitted to the police.
“The videos and photograph clearly point to the perpetrators and show that Mohan had instructed the attack,” said Gobi Krishnan, who received outpatient treatment for facial injuries.
Also injured was Puchong PKR chief S Murali, who said he underwent surgery for a broken cheek bone as a result.
“I received five stitches under my right eye and my vision is still blur in that eye to this day,” he said, adding that he did not provoke his alleged attackers.
Mohan had earlier denied the claims and accused PKR of starting the fracas by provoking the MIC delegation.
He also accused PKR vice-president N Surendran of using 17-year-old schoolgirl B Reshina as a shield during the fracas.
PKR was at the PM’s Office by appointment to hand over a memorandum to the prime minister about Reshina, who cannot sit for national examinations as she does not have an identity card.
The scuffle broke out when a bigger group from MIC also gathered at the PM’s Office to hand over a memorandum of thanks for the PM’s efforts in assisting the Indian community, especially on the issue of identity cards.
