Indians’ confidence in MIC rising, says Palanivel

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — The Indian community’s confidence in the MIC is now seen to be rising and this is a positive development for the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, said MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel.

He said the community was aware that the MIC truly looked after its welfare compared to the opposition which was only good at making empty promises.

The MIC would continue to do it best for the community, and among the promises it had fulfilled was the MyDaftar campaign to resolve documentation problems involving the community that was carried out last year, he said when met by reporters after launching a documentary on the community in Malaysia at the MIC’s headquarters here last night.

Palanivel, who is also minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said as many members of the community still did not possess birth certificates, citizenship certificates and identity documents, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak mooted a special committee to undertake the MyDaftar campaign last year to iron out the problems.

On the MIC’s list of candidates for the upcoming general election, Palanivel said the list was ready and was at the discussion stage with Najib, who is also BN chairman. — Bernama
