Lamborghini in lucky draw on anti-Bersih Facebook

The anti-Bersih group planning to hold a market in front of the residence of Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan is now offering two luxury cars up for grabs in a lucky draw.

“I wish to announce that Bersih 4.0 Peace-lovers has opened aFacebook page to find like-minded folk. To show appreciation for the public support, we’re glad to announce that our Facebookvisitors would get a chance to win a BMW 530,” said the group’s leader Jamal Md Yunus.

NONEHe said the 2005-model car is worth RM225,000. The other car is a 2009-model Lamborghini Gallardo worth RM1.2 million.

The Facebook page would be ready by noon tomorrow.

In order to be eligible, a participant would have to “Like” the page, and then visit one of 18 Sekinchan Ikan Bakar restaurants nationwide for a meal with a 30 percent discount, and keep the receipt.

Jamal, who owns the restaurant franchise and a luxury car dealership, said a lucky draw would be held for the Beemer once 150,000 people have done this. When the count hits one million, a second lucky draw would be held for the grand prize.

When asked what if people ended up signing up for the car but not the cause, or boycott his businesses, Jamal told a press conference today that it is up to members of the public.

“We can’t stop them,” he said.

NONENonetheless, he said he is confident of reaching the one million “Like” goal, thus exceeding by far the size of any single Bersih rally.

The group was originally called the Kuala Lumpur Petty Traders Action Committee, but in view of growing support, Jamal also announced at his restaurant along Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, that it would be renamed the “Kuala Lumpur Traders and Residents’ Action Council”.

“So it is not just businesses that are involved, but the city’s peace-loving residents, too, want to join us.”

When asked, he claimed that some 70 to 80 NGOs had contacted him to show support.

Tomorrow and the day after, the group will be selling their wares, food, and drinks outside Ambiga’s home in Bukit Damansara, despite being told off by Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail.

The gesture is both a protest and to recoup losses suffered as a result of the Bersih 3.0 rally.
