Lawyer defends right to do 'butt exercise'
A lawyer from the legal fraternity Pusat Rakyat Loyar Burok, Edmund Bon, yesterday defended the right of a group of army veterans to demonstrate in front of Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan’s home.
He said this was so despite his opposition to the group’s message in their protest yesterday.
“They have the right to hold non-violent action whether you agree with their issue or not. Each citizen has the right to demonstrate,” said the human rights lawyer when contacted by Malaysiakini.
However, he does not agree with the group’s message because there was no “clear message of public interest”.
“I don’t agree because as I understand it, the message was merely to embarrass Ambiga,” he said.
Protest done on a public road
He also sees no problems with the protest being held in front of Ambiga’s home “as long as it is non-violent”.
“(The demonstration) was done on a public road and not in a private home. To me, there is no problem,” he said.
He was commenting on a demonstration held by about 15 people from the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVTM) whowriggled their buttocks for about 15 minutes in front of Ambiga’s Bukit Damansara home.
