Selangor will face serious water crisis by 2014: Syabas

(Bernama) -- Come 2014, Selangor will face serious shortage of water supply, if the state government fails to take pre-emptive action now.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said Syabas had submitted detailed information to all parties, including the state government, on areas that were hit by serious water crisis.
"If the state government does not believe, they can challenge these data. Please send any external consultants to check on the water data that we have processed.
"These facts cannot be denied. If the situation is getting worse, then, anything else to say is pointless," he told reporters at the individual meter migration programme at Desa Perangsang Apartment in Taman Medan here today.
He also urged the Selangor Government to resolve the issues, including the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant project immediately, to avert a possible water crisis in the Klang Valley by 2014.
Meanwhile, Rozali said Syabas received 1,257 applications on the migration to individual meter involving 256,471 accounts, with about 50,000 accounts converted into individual account, in the first four months of this year.
"Our policy now is to convert all the bulk meters to individual meters by the end of this year," he added.
