WORRIED? Pakan, Julau folk urged to turn out in full force to welcome PM
PAKAN -- The people in the Julau and Pakan districts as well as statewide have been urged to turn up in full force when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak visits two longhouses here on June 3 in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak (Harvest) Festival.
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang said the prime minister was scheduled to visit Rh.George Chungut in Nanga Nansang here followed by RH.Mathew Jana anak Saweng in Batu Matop.
He said Parti Rakyat Sarawak(PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing and he himself would be the hosts at Rh.Mathew Jana which would also be attended by party members and supporters from all its six parliamentary constituencies.
"PRS is using the Rh.Mathew Jana longhouse for its Gawai open houses for our very distinguished guests because of its strategic location," he told reporters here today.
"On the other hand, Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party(SPDP) president Tan Sri William Mawan will be the host at Rh.George which also happens to be his longhouse," he added.
This will be the party's open house for the prime minister and his entourage which will also include Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
"Likewise, we will expect SPDP other leaders, members and supporters to flock to the longhouse," Salang said.
He said the visit or "Ngabang" in Iban shows that Najib lived by his 1Malaysia concept in giving priority to the people's welfare and well-being.
This would be Najib's first Gawai Dayak "ngabang" round to real Iban longhouses since becoming our prime minister.
"So let us turn up in full force whether we represent any political parties or otherwise.
"Let us show we are united in strongly supporting him and his government which is trying to make the country more progressive than ever," Salang added.
