Back water crisis cry with facts, Syabas challenged

Klang MP Charles Santiago has demanded Syabas reveals pertinent information to back its claim that a major water crisis looms over Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Syabas must also reveal the meter readings of water entering the 33 water treatment plants in Selangor and output into the consumer distribution system during the same period.

"I dare Syabas to show to the public that there really is a water crisis," Santiago (right) told a press conference today.
Santiago, who is also the coordinator for the Coalition Against Water Privatisation (CAWP) insisted that the information would be used for NGOs to confirm Syabas' claims on the water crisis.

At the same time, he said, the picture of the an overflowing damwas not a technically accurate justification on the water supply in Selangor.

"When someone shows a picture of a dam full of water, it doesn't show anything... perhaps it was raining the day before," Santiago said.

It was reported on July 14 that Syabas wanted to implement water rationing in response to what it said was a water crisis in Selangor.

The Pakatan-led Selangor government responded two days later, saying it wanted to take over Syabas' operations.

Yesterday, the Minister of Energy, Green Energy and Water Peter Chin Fah Kui announced that a cabinet committe would be set up to intervene in the Selangor water situation.
