George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd, which has found itself in the centre of controversy over allegations that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak intervened on its behalf for the LRT Ampang Line extension project, said today it had yet to receive the RM1 billion tender.
Approached by journalists after the company’s annual general meeting at its Puchong headquarters this morning, George Kent chairperson Tan Kay Hock (right) said the matter was still under evaluation.
“No, no... It’s not been awarded yet, so let’s wait for that. Let’s wait for the government to award this, it may come to us, it may not,” Tan said.
Immediately after the AGM, Tan took off upstairs through a side lift, prompting journalists with questions for him to dash up two flights of staircase.
Met outside the lift, Tan declined to comment on the company's chances of obtaining the LRT extension project after the issue had become politicised with the allegations raised by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli.

"What political tussle? We're a business group, don't talk about politics, I'm not a politician.
"I don't want to comment. Just wait. Once the government has awarded (the project), we will make a statement," Tan said before walking off in a huff.
Rafizi had conducted a series of press conferences alleging that George Kent company had beenapproved by the Finance Ministry through theintervention of the premier for the Ampang LRT extension project, despite its lack of experience compared to its competitors.
Rafizi has also said that a Letter of Intention (LOI) to award the project has been issued to George Kent, and that in his experience, the LOI is as good as a letter of award.
The company's 2012 annual report provided to journalists states that George Kent Group is expanding its resources and building its capabilities to expand its construction activities into the transportation, rail and green technology sectors.
it also says that the first non-water related construction project undertaken by the company was the extension of the Kuala Lipis Hospital, which is "by far the only project by the Health Ministry that was delivered on schedule and within budget".
