MCA: If DAP is so good, help Selangor with White Paper

If the DAP is so well-versed in the Selangor government's debt recovery exercise with Talam Corporation, it should help complete the long overdue White Paper instead of throwing challenges to debate.

"If DAP has got all the answers, then please help the Selangor government complete the White Paper." MCA central committee member Chua Tee Yong told a press conference at the MCA headquarters this afternoon.
NONEChua was responding to Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua's challenge to him to a debate the Talam matter to put it to rest once and for all.
Chua, who held his fifth press conference on Talam today, has been consistently rebutted by Pua who has ridiculed the Labis MP and deputy agriculture minister.

He said the Talam issue had nothing to do with debating with Pua.

"MCA is asking relevant and valid questions. If they are not happy, then help the Pakatan Rakyat state government to complete the White Paper so that we all can know the details of the transaction.

"This is not about me or anybody winning a debate," Chua added.
He also slammed Pakatan over the Talam issue, accusing the opposition coalition of repeatedly shifting the goal post.

"The Selangor government first said it would table a White Paper on the matter by the year end. Then it said it wants to sue MCA and now it is saying it will appoint five accounting firms to audit the deal.

NONE"After that, certain parties said they will strip MCA naked, and now they say they want to debate. So why keep shifting so many goal posts? Come out with the White Paper and settle everything," Chua said.

The White Paper on the Talam debt restructuring was supposed to be tabled in the Selangor state assembly in 2010 but this did not materialise.

However, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the White Paper on Talam would be tabled together with the state's 2013 Budget, which is due to be presented in October.

'Come clean on debt figures'

Earlier, Chua revealed that according to a Nov 9, 2010 record in the Selangor state assembly Hansard, the state government had revealed that it had to pay RM30 million to Talam.

Similarly, he said, national news agency Bernama in a recent report quoted Khalid as saying that the state government owed Talam RM80 million.

"First they say they owe RM30 million, then it's RM80 million. What is it now?" he queried.

When it was pointed out to Chua that the RM80 million was not money owed to Talam but money still locked in the form of assets already acquired from the company, Chua replied that he based his question on the Bernama news report.

"I don't know who is right. So you better clarify what do they (the state government) mean by not yet cashed out or, if the amount is outstanding, what is still owed to Talam," he said.

According to the Hansard, Khalid had said that the assets to the state government surrendered by Talam were valued at RM422 million after its debts were cleared - which came to RM30 million more than the RM392 million Talam owed.
