Memories of Pte Adam & Ops Lalang: Man brandishing sword outside PM's office killed

Memories of Pte Adam & Ops Lalang: Man brandishing sword outside PM's office killed
UPDATE 3 Police opened fire at a couple, who were brandishing 'samurai' swords allegedly in an aggressive manner outside Block B1 of the Prime Minister's Department in Putrajaya on Monday.
According to the Star newspaper, the man who was shot in the left arm and leg succumbed to his injuries at the Putrajaya Hospital.
The shocking news rehashed memories of an incident that took place on October 18, 1987, when an army private Adam Jaafar had run amok in Kuala Lumpur's Jalan Chow Kit. Armed with an M-16, Adam shot at buildings and a person was killed from a bullet that ricocheted.
Racial tensions had then been running high, and although the police denied Adam's shoot-out had any racial connection, they launched the infamous Operations Lalang crackdown just 9 days later on October 27, arresting 106 people - mostly opposition leaders and Chinese education activists.
Given that Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno party is currently facing a voter backlash especially from the non-Malays, there is widespread fear that he and former premier Mahathir Mohamad might cook up an incident that will allow their Umno party to cling to power by again arresting Opposition leaders for stirring up 'sensitive' issues.
What did they want, who did they ask to see
Meanwhile, Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Razak Majid has told the press that no motive has yet been established for Monday's rampage outside Najib's office. However, police believe it could be linked to a deviant cult. The man had claimed to be Imam Mahadi.
Nonetheless, that still does not explain why the couple wanted entry to the PM's office complex, who they wanted to meet and why they brought along weapons.
The pair, who is reported to have met up only a week ago, arrived in a car at the security post of the Economic Planning Unit office at about 2.30pm.
An auxiliary policeman, who tried to stop them from entering the premises, was taken hostage. The man held a sword to the cop's neck and forced him to walk together past the other security before releasing him.
"The duo then ran amok and smashed the windows of a Hyundai Accent and a Perodua Kancil car parked in the parking lot,” Abdul Razak
The high drama lasted for about 5 minutes before police reinforcements came to the scene. The woman -  a 28-year-old mother of two - has been remanded for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the man's wife has been informed of her husband's death.
“One of the officers fired three shots at the suspects hitting the man in his left arm. The woman was shot in the left thigh," said Abdul Razak.
"The suspects were immediately rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital but the man succumbed to his injuries about 15 minutes after arrival."

  1. How can anyone shot in the arm can die, even more odd, he died 15 minutes AFTER ARRIVAL at the Serdang Hospital?
