A PKR leader said Perkasa's mob-like behaviour goes against the essence of Malay culture.
GEORGE TOWN: Perkasa’s claim of representing Malay interests rings hollow because of its mob -like behaviour, a PKR leader said.
PKR state secretary Abdul Halim Hussain said Perkasa’s stance is mocking the true essence of Malay culture.
He said Perkasa’s mob politics does not reflect real Malay culture, which emphasised on virtues of humility, politeness and peace.
“Perkasa’s attitude is surely not representative of Malay culture or Islamic values,” he told FMT.
He was cmmenting on Perkasa’s hostile demonstration against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng during his visit to a wet market in Teluk Bahang last Saturday.
Abdul Halim, who is also PKR Balik Pulau division chairman, and Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff, accompanied Lim.
During the event, a Perkasa youth came from behind and brushed Lim’s left shoulder and arm as the chief minister was about to get into his car and leave for another function.
The youth was later overpowered and pushed away by some local residents.
During their protest, some 10 Perkasa members threw Lim’s posters to the floor while he was on a walkabout in a wet market.
The Perkasa youth also slandered Lim with racist chants.
Local village security and development committee (JKKK) has lodged a report on the incident, while a Perkasa member has also lodged a report complaining he was roughed up by Lim’s aides.
“Never before has a chief minister been treated so badly by anyone or group. The Perkasa members did not have any business to be there in first place.
“But they intruded into other people’s event, held an illegal mob protest and acted like gangsters.
“I don’t understand why the police did not intervene and stop them,” said Abdul Halim, who is also the Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker.
