Police: JI and commies infiltrating opposition
Police Special Branch investigations have concluded that Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorists and former communists are infiltrating opposition parties and trying to be fielded as candidates in the coming general election.
This was revealed by assistant director of the E2 (M) national social extremist threat division head Mohd Sofian Md Makinuddin at the National Young Leaders Convention in Parliament today.
According to Bernama, Mohd Sofian claimed JI elements were trying to infiltrate PAS while the communist elements were trying to infiltrate DAP.
“Several PSM and PKR leaders are frequently visiting Bangkok and southern Thailand for what is believed to be secret visits with former Communist Party of Malaya leaders.
“The result of this is that ideas related to new politics that can potentially affect the core values of the country are on the rise.
“This movement is actually getting support from foreign NGOs in the form of funding, training domestically and abroad and exposure to certain expertise to face the elections,” he said.
Mohd Sofian said this in his speech titled 'National security our joint responsibility'.
NGOs designed for chaos
The one-day convention was organised by Parliament in conjunction with the Biro Tatanegara (National Civics Bureau, under the Prime Minister’s Department), Higher Education Ministry, Teachers Education Institute and the Malaysian Youth Council.
Mohd Sofian said the movement that he described aimed to create domestic NGOs that adopt a confrontational approach towards the government to cause chaos and weaken ruling parties.
“We are concerned over the actions of opposition parties and NGOs who play up controversial issues and incite the public to hate the government before the general election.
“Alternatively, they might hold more demonstrations or cause incidents that can misdirect the attention of the police...
"The mass movement to draw the public onto the streets will continue to be a trend in this country," he said.
He said that the “Bersih, Orange and Green” rallies were organised with opposition support and are the latest plans that were hatched with the general election in mind.
"In addition to this, there is a culture of campaigning the whole year round throughout the country, exposing the public to various information containing political values," Mohd Sofian claimed.
