Selangor exco to discuss Latheefa's resignation

PKR legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya's resignation as Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor will be discussed at the Selangor state executive council meeting tomorrow, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

NONE"I haven't received the letter (her resignation). However, even when I have the letter, I will only discuss it at the exco meeting tomorrow," Khalid told reporters at a press conference in Shah Alam today.

Asked if the state government would accept Latheefa resignation, the MB stressed that the choice was hers and hers alone.

"It is Latheefa Koya's, not the state government's."

Yesterday Latheefa tendered her resignation as MBPJ councillor, ahead of speculation that the state exco is planning to sack her.
'Khalid tabled the motion'
In her resignation letter, Latheefa said that continuing in her post was "no longer tenable" in view of the speculation that has gone public.

Earlier last week, online news site Free Malaysia Today reported sources indicating that it was Khalid himself who had tabled the proposal to axe her.

NONEIn a related development, Selangor PKR deputy chairperson Zuraida Kamaruddin urged the lawyer to reconsider her resignation andslammed the state government for taking things into its own hands and neglecting to consult with the state party apparatus.

Asked about Klang MP Charles Santiago's recent call to the state to stay away from water audit firms Halcrow, Suez and Wessex Water, Khalid said that those were ‘positive concerns'.

He said that Santiago's reminder was also a message to the three firms to perform their duties as best as they could.

"It is good if we are doubtful. This will make them more careful. It will ensure that they put the interests of the people of Selangor first in discharging their duties," Khalid added.

Santiago had urged the MB not to use the services of the three water audit firms in an oversight body Selangor is setting up to monitor the operations of state water concessionaire Syabas before moving to take over its operations.

The existing links and contracts these firm had with the federal government, Santiago said, would pose a conflict of interest.
