'Uncleseekers' freed on police bail

Syed Abdullah Al-Attas or ‘Uncleseekers’ who had been remanded under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 was released this afternoon on police bail after spending nine days in detention.

He was detained on July 5 to facilitate investigations following a report lodged by a 34-year-old man at the Nusajaya police headquarters.

Syed Abdullah, 46, was earlier remanded for seven days under Section 8(1)(d) of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972 for writing an article in his blog, allegedly slandering the Sultan of Johor.

State Criminal Investigation deputy chief ACP Mohd Akhir Ishak said the investigation papers on the OSA case had been handed to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.

Meanwhile, police are still waiting for the suspect's urine test results for drugs.

His 26-year-old female companion and two youths aged 23 and 24, who were detained July 9 at Tanjung Kling, Malacca have also been released.
