The parliament was today told that the RM40 million cash which a Sabah businessman was caught trying to smuggle into Malaysia from Hong Kong was "political contribution" and not for Sabah chief minister Musa Aman.
Nazri said according to investigation papers prepared by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for the Attorney General, the RM40 million was categorised as political contribution to Sabah UMNO.
“The Attorney General has scrutinised and evaluated the statement by MACC and has decided that there was no element of corruption present.
"The fund was contribution to Sabah UMNO and not for personal use of the chief minister,” Nazri said in a written reply to Batu member of parliament Tian Chua.
Nazri said the Independent Commission Against Corruption Hong Kong (ICAC) had also taken the same stance by "not acting on it".
Last April, Sarawak Report revealed a document from ICAC showing a lawyer in Sabah having US$30 million in a Swiss bank under Musa.
Businessman Michael Chia, who in 2008 was arrested with Singapore dollars equivalent to RM40 million before boarding a flight from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, was alleged to have links in this case.
Musa has denied the allegation linking him to Chia.
In an immediate reaction, DAP's Lim Kit Siang again mocked prime minister Najib Razak's speech at a recent international conference on fighting corruption, where the latter called for the instilling of a “natural abhorrence of corruption".
"Where is Najib’s 'natural abhorrence' of corruption when as PM he could be completely indifferent about RM40 million 'black money' attempted to be smuggled into Malaysia – whether for Sabah Chief Minister or Sabah UMNO?" asked Lim.
