'Gov't money for NGOs will stem foreign influence'
A parliamentarian wants the government to allocate money in the federal budget for NGOs to stem the tide of foreign funds and influence in local organisations.
“This is so that they will not depend on foreign funds,” argued Independent Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali in the Dewan Rakyat while debating the 2013 Budget bill today.
He also wants Malaysia to follow in the footsteps of the United States and enact legislation that requires all NGOs that receive foreign funding to declare such funds.
